Leash laws or not, dogs are a nuisance

Re: “Don’t loosen Denver leash laws,” May 26 editorial.

The dog lobby has too much influence and dogs too much importance in Colorado. Our public parks and bike paths are littered with dog droppings, lawns are spotted from urine, and many neighborhoods lack any semblance of peace and quiet due to barking. If all this is so appealing, why don’t dog owners use their lawns for their animals’ toilet or have fun rolling around in the grass that was just defecated upon? The city has no obligation to cater to folks who get these animals but have no place of their own to care for them.

Dog owners have this arrogance and self-professed right to use others’ property and our parks as a dog toilet and impose their dog into every area of society. Then there are off-leash policies that promote these problems and also ignore the real threat of dog bites and attacks on that element ignored by dog owners: humans.

If any policy should be reviewed, it is the banning of dogs in our parks and more severe penalties for pet owners who filth-up our once-clean public parks.
