Re: “Denver’s 4/20 permit questioned after organizers were given free use of Civic Center Park,” April 25 news story.
Your article highlights a permit inadequacy for Denver’s Civic Center. As founder of the Colorado Veterans Monument across Broadway in Lincoln Park, I have a good understanding of Cinco de Mayo, the Peoples Fair, the Denver PrideFest, A Taste of Colorado, and the Fiesta Patrias celebration, all of which receive festival event permits. After my walk-through on Saturday afternoon of the so-called 4/20 rally, I realized it is now a commercial festival just like these others. In fairness, the “rally” should no longer be given a free ride for blowing a cloud of marijuana smoke as cover.
